Rema, Lamine Yamal Named in 2025 TIME100 NEXT List

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Rema, and Barcelona’s teenage football star, Lamine Yamal, have been named among global trailblazers featured in the 2025 TIME100 NEXT list, which celebrates rising talents shaping the future of culture, sports, and innovation.

Rema, born Divine Ikubor, was recognized as the only African artist on this year’s list, underscoring his influence as one of the continent’s most successful musical exports. His profile in TIME was written by Grammy-winning legend Angélique Kidjo, who praised his artistry and bold approach to global Afrobeats.

The 24-year-old Nigerian star has continued to redefine Afrobeats with a unique blend of Afro-R&B and trap influences, drawing international collaborations and building a fan base across Europe, the U.S., and beyond.

Joining him on the TIME100 NEXT roster is Spain’s Lamine Yamal, widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in world football. The Barcelona forward has become a household name at just 18, with his skills and composure earning him comparisons to football greats.

The TIME100 NEXT list is a counterpart to the annual TIME100, spotlighting innovators, advocates, and future leaders across industries who are expected to shape the next decade.

Rema’s inclusion highlights the growing recognition of African artists on the global stage, while Yamal’s selection affirms football’s enduring influence on youth culture and identity worldwide.
